Visionscape accelerates works on Epe landfill
The Lagos State Commissioner for the Environment, Mr. Babatunde Durosinmi- Etti, has said that the waste management company in the state, Visionscape Sanitation Solutions, has made remarkable progress on the construction of the first engineered sanitary landfill in Nigeria. The site is located in Epe, Lagos State.
Speaking during the ministerial press briefing in Lagos, yesterday, Durosinmi-Etti also assured residents of the commitment of the state government towards ensuring the success of the Ecopark project.
The commissioner mentioned that the company has completed the landfill’s weighbridge, control tower and other facilities, while Portland Energy and Power has been mobilised to site for the commencement of work on engineered hazardous landfill in Badagry.
He said: “The Epe landfill under construction by Visionscape is achieving remarkable progress with the completion of the weighbridge and control tower among other facilities, while Portland Energy and Power is mobilizing to site for the commencement of work on engineered hazardous landfill in Badagry.”
Durosinmi- Etti reiterated the state’s commitment to providing adequate infrastructure required to support the environmental management of the burgeoning state with over 22 million residents.
The commissioner presented a progress report on the activities of the government’s environmental reforms.
On the update of the Epe landfill, the Chief Executive Officer of Visionscape Sanitation Solutions, John Irvine, said the next phase of the project was the remediation work, giving details on the process of excavating waste on the 88-hectare dumpsite before construction actually began.
